![]() ![]() When I first heard Sebastian’s and Ciel’s names I laughed. Poor writing plagued the last three-quarters of the series, which is a real shame, considering how much I enjoyed the first six episodes. Plot twists came from nowhere, justifications and character motivations did not add up and I would end up sitting there by the end of the episode wondering what on earth has just happened. His personality wouldn’t allow him to do such an act, even if it were to benefit Ciel in the end. For someone who has made an unbreakable contract and who has already done about two years work for Ciel it was a unrealistic that he would leave Ciel. Take Sebastian’s sudden disappearance for example. Most of the second half’s story made absolutely NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. Now this is where it goes horribly wrong. The second half was written exclusively for the anime. The second half of the series was entirely all filler filler that wasn’t even interesting and to put it plainly – all over the place.Īs mentioned before, the anime does not follow the manga series exactly but the first half of the series does to an extent. ![]() However, after that it just started to get a little tiring with all the missions they have to carry out. Instantly there is a dark and mysterious aura and it is well maintained throughout the entire series (except for the idiotic moments with the less than lovable extra staff at the Phantomhive household). The first and second episodes were indeed spectacular. If not for the amount of filler episodes that had been injected in due to the lack of material that had come out from the manga and the confusion in later episodes that still left me with many, many questions. the head of his house and company and Sebastian Michaelis, the demon butler who could do anything and together working for the Queen to solve mysteries and at the same time learning about Ciel’s past. Two-three years later they are still together Ciel Phantomhive the 12 (later 13) year old Earl also The story starts off with an eerie atmosphere, showing a 10 year old child who exchanges his soul for a demon butler to help exact his revenge against the people who killed his parents and humiliated him. Oh, and the obvious gay shinigami who keeps trying to kiss the butler. Picture Source: EDIT: It has come to my attention that Grell is a biological male that actually identifies as female and uses female pronouns when referring to herself, so in this respect, I have fixed her pronouns to match the correct gender identification. So, Kuroshitsuji is an anime that is labelled “shounen” but I don’t really know why - it’s filled with bishounens, pretty clothes and the fancy Victorian age backdrop with massive shounen ai and shota undertones. Her insanity makes the other characters confused and acts as a bit of comedic relief now and then. Though the series itself was a bit of a disappointment, I still love Grell. If you happen to watch the entire series, there is a special episode at the very end that shows Grell’s past, and I was surprised to find out that she was not always so flamboyant. But Sebastian saves her ever time, and this is perhaps where Grell’s intense affection for the demon butler stems from. She is overly dramatic in this guise, attempting to kill herself at least 10 times during the episode. Usually she is able to peacock around with her fancy chain saw, but the scissors are simply a joke.īefore Ciel and Sebastian find out who she really is, she masqueraded as a butler for Ciel’s aunt. Her enthusiasm, though, causes her to get into some trouble and she’s punished by recieving two pairs of scissors instead of her custom death scythe, which is embarrassing for her in many ways. Where most reapers proudly display their death scythe, death sword, or knife, she’s modified her’s to appear and sound like a chain saw. Her true affections lay with the demon butler Sebastian, but the latter simply finds it amusing. ![]() She flirts with every man who holds power, but mainly to avoid getting punched. While most reapers are serious and dedicated, Grell is energetic and enthusiastic about everything. In this world, there is a reaper by the name if Grell Sutcliff that is not easily ignored, and not just because of her flamboyantly red outfit. The world of Black Butler is a strange one indeed, wrought with ghosts, angels, and reapers. ![]()
